Crumbs!
Crumbs! is a family run bakery based in Lanarkshire, Scotland which opened in the late 1990’s. Specialising in high quality traditional British cakes and tarts, Crumbs! are looking to break into the online gifting through postage market. The target market is busy professionals who value convenience and quality, looking for a unique gift that is tastier than a bunch of flowers. The deliverables were a box for a bakewell tart, a thank you greetings card which could be personalised by the customer and a promotional app for the launch of the new box and the postal service with next day delivery.
The Brief
The brief for this project was to create a wordmark for crumbs!, a box for a traditional british cake based on the town it originates from, along with the box a thank you card was to be designed as well as either a 4 page promotional app or a 10 second promotional animation. The cakes are retailing at £25 with free delivery so the box must look upmarket to match the high quality of the cakes and feel like a luxury gift. Each student was assigned a different cake, I was assigned the bakewell tart so I decided to use one larger bakewell tart rather than 4-6 smaller tarts as this is less common in supermarkets. I also decided to design the promotional app over the animation as I feel my figma skills needed consolidating.
The Concept
The concept for this box was a Charles Dickens book shaped box, inspired by the printer and publisher William Bradbury who was born in the town of bakewell and later became a printer and publisher for Charles Dickens. The work of William Bradbury in the 1800’s was beautiful the borders on the book covers were often ornate and included gold giving a luxury feeling. I wanted to create a modernised, fresh look with a classical feeling for the box design.
